Frequently asked questions
Where are my notes saved?
In your browser's localStorage. They never reach our servers. The note lives on the device you typed it on, in the browser you typed it in.
Do you read or store my notes?
No. We don't have a server-side database for your content. We can't read what you write because we don't receive it.
Does it work offline?
Yes. After the first load, the editor runs entirely in your browser. You don't need a connection to type, save, copy, or download.
Will I lose my notes if I clear browser data?
Yes. Clearing site data, using private/incognito mode, switching browsers, or switching devices will lose locally-stored notes. If something is important, hit "Download .txt" and save it somewhere safe.
Can I sync notes between devices?
Not directly — that would require us holding your notes on a server. For now, use the Download button and store the file in iCloud / Dropbox / Google Drive yourself.
What's the size limit?
Browser localStorage typically allows 5-10 MB per origin, depending on the browser. That's roughly 5-10 million characters — enough for a novel.
Is this site really free?
Yes. No paywall, no signup. We may show small unobtrusive ads on content pages to keep the lights on, but never inside the editor itself.
Can I share a note with someone?
Not via a URL on this site — that's deliberate, because URL-based sharing means we'd have to store your content. To share, use the Copy or Download button, or see our pastebin alternatives roundup.
What about encryption?
Your data already never leaves your browser, which is stronger than encryption-in-transit. If you want encrypted shareable links, PrivateBin or 0bin are good options.
